Responsive Art: A collaborative process, in which artists, Betty Butler and Itala Langmar, observe and interpret the other's work, and then respond with a new piece of their own. The artists bring different strenghts to the project. Betty Butler employs a strong use of color and gesture, while Itala Langmar uses a more luminescent, lyrical approach. The result is calming yet delightful pairs of paintings. "Their 22 gentle abstractions...seem to dance quietly with and around one another." Fred Camper, Chicago Reader.
These responsive diptychs are medium to large scale abstractions, based on the ephemeral patterns of clouds. |
